India’s most commanding performance of the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 was delivered on Wednesday, with 15 Indian boxers being confirmed for the gold-medal bouts, giving the host nation the highest number of finalists in this elite eight-nation competition. The event is being held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida.

Reigning World Champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) was seen at her best, as a confident 5–0 victory was registered over Kazakhstan’s Ulzhan Sarsenbek, a former Asian Youth Champion. Sharp defensive judgement, smooth footwork, and clean combinations were displayed throughout the bout. With this win, a highly anticipated final has been set up against Paris Olympic medallist Wu Shih-Yi, marking one of the most awaited title clashes of the tournament. After her semifinal, Jaismine stated that the bout had been an excellent experience and expressed confidence that the Indian contingent would deliver strong performances in the finals.

A powerful charge was also led by Nikhat Zareen, who produced a controlled yet aggressive display against Uzbekistan’s Ganieva Gulsevar, repeatedly landing her signature left hooks in a tense tactical contest. Sachin Siwach (60kg) advanced by using early momentum and measured distance control to outmanoeuvre Dilshod Abdumurodov, while Hitesh Gulia (70kg) earned a commanding win through precise counter-punching that turned Mukhammadazizbek Ismoilov’s aggression to his own disadvantage.

Further momentum for the hosts was created by Pawan (55kg), who recovered from a narrow opening round to dominate England’s Ellis Trowbridge for a 5–0 win, and by Jadumani (50kg), who overpowered Australia’s Omer Izaz, an Astana World Cup medallist, with sustained pressure and sharp hooks.

A few setbacks were recorded as well. Jugnoo (85kg) exited the tournament following a 5–0 defeat, while Neeraj Phogat (65kg) delivered a brave, attacking performance but lost by a 3–2 split decision against Olympic medallist Chen Nien-Chin. Sumit (75kg) settled for bronze after a 4–1 loss to Poland’s Michal Jarlinski.

With 15 finalists confirmed, India has secured a total of 20 medals, ensuring that every Indian boxer participating in the tournament will finish on the podium, marking one of the country’s most successful campaigns at a major international boxing event.

A strong India-Uzbekistan presence has been set for Thursday’s title bouts, with six finals featuring direct clashes between the two nations. Key encounters will include Arundhati vs Aziza Zokirova, Nupur vs Sotimboeva Oltinoy, Minakshi vs Fozilova Farzona, and Narender vs the unbeaten knockout specialist Khalimjon Mamasoliev. Jadumani and Pawan will face Asilbek Jalilov and Samandar Olimov, respectively.

Other finals will feature equally high-profile matchups, including Preeti vs Italy’s Sirine Charrabi, Parveen vs Japan’s Ayaka Taguchi, and Pooja vs Poland’s reigning World Champion Agata Kaczmarska. In the men’s category, Ankush Phangal will meet England’s Shittu Oladimeji, while Abhinash Jamwal will take on Japan’s seasoned boxer Shion Nishiyama, setting the stage for a high-stakes final day for the hosts.
