Jaipur to host 78th Army Day parade today, bringing forces closer to civilians
Jaipur is all set as the city hosts the 78th Indian Army Day parade on Mahal Road today, January 15. Security has been tightened, and final rehearsals have drawn large crowds, highlighting the meticulous preparations undertaken to ensure a smooth and impressive ceremony.
The parade is being held on Mahal Road in the Jagatpura area of Jaipur , marking the first time the Army Day parade is taking place outside a traditional military cantonment in a public urban setting . The move is aimed at bringing the Army closer to civilians , strengthening community ties, and allowing citizens to witness India’s military capabilities up close. Jaipur becomes the fourth Indian city after Bengaluru, Pune, and Lucknow to host the parade outside the capital.
Full-dress rehearsals conducted in the days leading up to the parade showcased marching contingents, synchronized cavalry drills, motorcycle teams, and flypasts by helicopters including Chetak, Apache, and Prachand. These rehearsals attracted thousands of spectators, with locals turning out to witness the display of military precision and strength.
The parade opened with Chetak helicopters carrying the national and Army flags, followed by a flypast. It features officers decorated with the Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and other gallantry awards , marching contingents including the newly formed Bhairav Battalion , mounted troops of the 61st Cavalry , and a special band contingent from the Nepal Army . Advanced weapon systems and platforms on display include T‑90 and Arjun tanks, BMP‑II vehicles, BrahMos and Nag missiles, drone units, and anti‑mine platforms.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi are attending the parade as principal dignitaries, along with civil and military leaders from Rajasthan. Around 40 foreign ambassadors and consuls are also present, underlining the event’s international significance.
To engage the public, a four‑day “Know Your Army” exhibition is underway in Jaipur, featuring equipment and interactive exhibits related to Army operations and capabilities. Attendance at the parade requires prior registration, and only confirmed pass-holders are allowed in the main viewing areas. The event is also being broadcast live for those unable to attend in person.
With the Jaipur Literature Festival beginning today as well , traffic management plans and diversions have been implemented around Mahal Road and other key city routes to ensure smooth movement and public safety.
The 78th Army Day parade in Jaipur showcases not only India’s military strength and discipline but also the Army’s commitment to public engagement, modernisation, and international camaraderie.
