Jagan urges YSRCP MPs to fight for Andhra Pradesh’s rights in Parliament

Ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament starting today, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has called on the party’s MPs to strongly raise issues affecting Andhra Pradesh. He emphasized that MPs must fight for farmers and other pressing concerns facing the state.

Jagan highlighted the severe losses suffered by farmers due to the recent 'Montha' cyclone, noting that neither the state nor the central government has provided any compensation. He expressed concern over the decline in minimum support prices for key crops such as paddy, maize, pulses, cotton, tubers, bananas, chili, and mangoes. The former Chief Minister criticized the NDA government for halting procurement, which has left farmers in distress. He also pointed out that the free crop insurance scheme provided without premiums during 2019-2024 has now been discontinued, and investment subsidies are no longer being granted. Additionally, the suspension of e-crop registrations has caused confusion in crop data, affecting farmers’ eligibility for compensation.

Jagan warned that inviting private companies to partially privatize the Vizag Steel Plant is a dangerous move. He called it a betrayal of the thousands who sacrificed their land and lives for the plant and demanded an immediate halt to privatization plans, along with revitalization of the plant using allocated iron ore.

He also criticized the government for removing nearly 1.9 million job cards under the employment guarantee scheme, which he said has left rural families without a source of livelihood. Jagan further expressed concern over deteriorating law and order in the state, citing political harassment, illegal arrests, and threats to several leaders that have created an atmosphere of fear. He highlighted inadequate food, drinking water, and sanitation facilities for students in government hostels and welfare institutions.

YSRCP MPs have been urged to fight for pending central funds, employment initiatives, and the protection of Andhra Pradesh’s rights, ensuring that the voices of the state’s people are heard in Parliament.

Ahead of the session, YSRCP Lok Sabha leader Mithun Reddy, speaking to the media at an all-party meeting, demanded that Parliament discuss the privatization of the Vizag Steel Plant, the discontinuation of the employment guarantee scheme, and the privatization of medical colleges to provide clarity and solutions for Andhra Pradesh residents.
