India’s campaign in the women’s 50m rifle three positions event suffered a setback at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Cairo, with all three Indian shooters failing to qualify for the final on Tuesday.

Anjum Moudgil was the best-placed Indian in the qualification round, finishing 23rd with a score of 584-27x. However, her performance was not enough to secure a place among the finalists.

Ayushi Podder finished 37th with a score of 581-24x, while Manini Kaushik placed 39th with 581-21x, bringing India’s campaign in the event to an early end.

The result was a disappointment for the Indian contingent, which will be hoping to improve its medal tally as the competition continues in the Egyptian capital.

India have won just one medal at the tournament so far, with Udhayveer Sidhu delivering the country’s only gold on Sunday. He claimed the top prize in the men’s 10m air pistol competition, providing India with an early boost at the prestigious international shooting event.

The failure of the women’s rifle trio to reach the final means India will have to look to other events and competitors for further podium finishes.

The ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol brings together shooters competing at the international level across rifle and pistol disciplines. Qualification rounds determine which athletes advance to the finals, where medals are decided.

With the competition still underway, the Indian team will aim to build on Sidhu’s gold-medal performance and strengthen its overall showing in Cairo.
