Israel’s Supreme Court temporarily halts aid group ban as Gaza violence continues

Israel’s Supreme Court on Friday issued a temporary injunction blocking a government order that would have barred 37 international aid organizations from operating in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank , pausing enforcement while the court reviews a broad legal challenge. The ruling comes amid continuing violence in Gaza, deepening humanitarian needs and rising regional tensions.

The injunction followed a petition by 17 major relief groups, including Médecins Sans Frontières, Oxfam and the Norwegian Refugee Council. The organizations had refused to comply with new Israeli rules requiring detailed disclosure of Palestinian staff identities and funding information, which they said would compromise neutrality and safety and hinder critical assistance. The groups warned that the ban would disrupt lifesaving food, water, healthcare and shelter services for civilians already devastated by years of conflict.

Humanitarian officials described conditions in Gaza as catastrophic with hospitals and clinics overwhelmed, severe shortages of medicine and clean water, and hundreds of thousands of displaced people living in tents or makeshift shelters. Rights groups have documented that last year was among the deadliest on record for journalists worldwide , with a majority killed in the Israel‑Gaza conflict, underscoring the risks faced by civilians and observers alike.

Despite a U.S.‑brokered ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, Israeli airstrikes and clashes have continued, killing and injuring Palestinians and disrupting daily life and aid deliveries. Gaza’s health authorities report rising civilian casualties even under the truce, while the Israeli military says operations target militants after alleged ceasefire violations.

In the occupied West Bank , the U.S. Embassy began offering consular services in Israeli settlements, a policy shift critics say legitimizes settlement expansion deemed illegal under international law and an obstacle to peace. Settler violence and forced displacements have also increased.
