Islamic school collapse in Indonesia leaves one dead, dozens injured

At least one student was killed and more than 80 others injured after a building under construction at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in East Java collapsed on Monday, authorities said. Dozens of students were praying inside the structure when the collapse occurred, with several others reportedly still trapped under the rubble.

Rescue teams comprising police, soldiers, and local volunteers worked through the night, digging through concrete debris to reach survivors. Officials said three students were believed to remain alive under the rubble. Heavy slabs of concrete and unstable sections of the building complicated the rescue efforts, but emergency responders provided oxygen and water to those trapped.

Most of the injured were male students, as female students were praying in a separate section of the building and escaped unharmed. Survivors were treated for head injuries and broken bones at nearby hospitals, with some in critical condition.

Families gathered near the site, anxiously awaiting news as rescuers continued their search for survivors amid the debris.
