Ishari Ganesh confirms Vada Chennai 2 at Idli Kadai audio launch

Chennai’s Nehru Indoor Stadium turned into a star-studded venue on September 14, 2025, as the audio launch of Dhanush’s upcoming film Idli Kadai witnessed a major announcement that thrilled fans. Producer Ishari K. Ganesh of Vels Film International revealed that production on Vada Chennai 2 , the much-awaited sequel to the 2018 cult crime drama, will officially begin soon with Dhanush’s nod of approval.

Directed by Vetrimaaran, the first Vada Chennai released in 2018 and became a landmark in Tamil cinema. The gritty gangster saga traced the life of Anbu (played by Dhanush), a carrom player who gets drawn into the violent world of North Chennai’s underworld. The film received both critical acclaim and commercial success, with audiences praising its raw portrayal of Chennai’s socio-political backdrop. Fans have since been eagerly awaiting the continuation of Anbu’s journey, and Ganesh’s announcement has reignited excitement.

At the launch, Dhanush, who has written, directed, and played the lead in Idli Kadai , opened up about the film’s inspiration. He shared that the story comes from his childhood memories of yearning for a plate of idlis without having the money to buy them—an anecdote that reflects themes of humble beginnings, emotion, and resilience. The film is set to hit theatres on October 1, 2025.

The event featured lively performances and speeches from the cast, including Nithya Menen and Sathyaraj, who praised Dhanush’s vision and storytelling. Addressing online criticism, Dhanush stated, “A small group may spread negativity, but in the end, everyone watches the films,” drawing applause from fans.
