IRCTC scam case: Delhi HC seeks CBI response on Tejashwi Yadav’s plea

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought a response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a plea filed by RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav challenging the framing of charges against him in the alleged IRCTC scam case .

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notice to the CBI on Tejashwi Yadav’s petition and stay application , and listed the matter for further hearing on January 14 . The High Court will also hear on the same day a similar plea filed by his father, former Union railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav .

The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the award of operational contracts of two IRCTC hotels located in Ranchi and Puri during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as railway minister between 2004 and 2009 . The CBI has alleged that the contracts were handed over to M/s Sujata Hotels Limited, later taken over by M/s LARA Projects LLP , without following the prescribed tendering norms.

According to the agency, the private company allegedly provided undue benefits to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family in return for the favours. These included the transfer of a prime land parcel in Delhi to a firm linked to his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav. The CBI has alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, and abuse of official position under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

On October 13, 2025 , a trial court framed charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and 11 others under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused have since approached the Delhi High Court challenging the charge-framing order.

The High Court is now examining whether the trial court’s order warrants interference and will take up the matter again on January 14 after the CBI files its response .
