Iran Says MoU Is Over, Accuses Washington Of Violating Peace Deal

Iran has formally declared its ceasefire agreement with the United States dead, marking the first time Tehran has explicitly called the pact over after seven consecutive nights of US strikes deep inside Iranian territory targeting military sites and energy infrastructure.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the US has violated and suspended all its commitments within the Islamabad memorandum of understanding , adding that Iran too has halted its obligations because it is "busy defending the country." He described Tehran's response as a "united and decisive defence" and vowed to "teach a lesson to aggressors." Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf went further, declaring Iran is fighting an "essential and existential war with America."

The 14 point memorandum, signed last month, had halted military operations and set up talks on the Strait of Hormuz , sanctions relief and Iran's nuclear programme. President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire "over" days earlier, accusing Iran of continued aggression in the strait. Asked directly this week whether he plans to seize Kharg Island , Iran's principal oil terminal that handles roughly 90 percent of the country's crude exports, Trump declined to rule it out, telling Fox News, "I can't say that to you because if I did, it would be foolish." Military analysts say US forces could likely capture the island within hours but would face a far riskier task holding it, since Kharg sits just 16 miles off Iran's coast and well within range of Iranian missiles, drones and shore based weapons. CENTCOM has already enforced its renewed blockade around the island, disabling the tanker M/T Belma with Hellfire missiles after it ignored repeated warnings while sailing toward Kharg.

Central Command carried out its seventh straight night of strikes, hitting Iranian surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage and maritime capabilities using fighter jets, drones and warships. Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed to have struck the US base at al Tanf in Syria in retaliation and hit a Kuwaiti desalination plant, prompting Kuwait's Foreign Ministry to formally accuse Iran of a "systematic hostile approach" targeting civilian sites, including desalination plants, oil facilities and power plants. Kuwait's air defenses intercepted missiles and drones over its territory, while Jordan intercepted ten Iranian missiles days after Iran struck at least two Jordanian bases and injured American service members stationed there. Bahrain and Saudi Arabia issued shelter in place warnings as strikes intensified, and in Iraq's Kurdistan region, drone and rocket strikes blamed on Iran killed nine members of an exiled Iranian Kurdish opposition group. In the Gulf of Oman, Indian seafarer Herambh Karmarkar , 30, was confirmed dead after Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces struck the vessel MV GFS Galaxy where he served as third engineer. Separately, reports say the US has sent dozens of refuelling jets to Israel even as Iran has reportedly targeted properties linked to Trump himself.

Iran's Health Ministry says US attacks on the country since July 6 have killed at least 50 people and wounded more than 500 , with Friday's strikes alone hitting an airport, a railway station and two bridges in Hormozgan province, killing three and wounding nine.

Iran's water company says nearly 10,000 people across 20 villages in the south remain without water following the overnight strikes. Shipping through Hormuz has slowed to a trickle, with only six vessels transiting the waterway in the 24 hours before Friday against 18 to 22 crossings daily before the war. The World Bank has already warned that the war is dragging global economic growth to its weakest pace since the Covid pandemic, projecting growth of just 2.5 percent this year, and renewed hostilities could push that figure lower still. A top Iranian military adviser has warned of a possible "full scale offensive" if the American campaign continues through the weekend, leaving little sign that a war now 140 days old is anywhere close to ending.
