
International-Standard Disaster Training Centre Planned in Telangana
In a bid to make Telangana a model for disaster management in the country, the state government has initiated steps to establish a State Institute of Disaster Management with international standards . Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy issued key directions during a review meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday with officials from the Disaster Management Department, Fire Services, HYDRA and ICCC.
The Minister instructed officials to prepare comprehensive proposals for setting up the institute. He also directed the formation of a high-level committee comprising representatives from relevant departments. The action plan will be discussed with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy before a final decision is taken. The institute will provide uniform, scientific training in disaster management to all government departments in the state.
He stated that the primary objective is not only to carry out relief operations during disasters but also to minimise loss of life and property through preparedness . The institute will function as a premier research and policy support centre in disaster prevention and management, with a focus on strengthening response capabilities at the district and field levels.
The Minister noted that the government is equipping departments with advanced technology to effectively handle emergencies. He said real-time monitoring systems and early warning mechanisms are being strengthened to enable swift response during floods and fire accidents. The government is also procuring drones and high-speed boats for rescue operations.
Calling for coordinated efforts, the Minister urged all departments to work in unison to safeguard the state from disasters. The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary (Disaster Management) Dana Kishore , Fire Services Director Vikram Singh , HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath , ICCC Director Kamal Hassan Reddy , and other senior officials.
