International Fleet Review 2026 to be held in Visakhapatnam
The Indian Navy is set to host the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 in Visakhapatnam from February 15 to 25 next year. The event aims to strengthen maritime security and promote naval cooperation among countries. During this period, navies from various nations will conduct joint exercises at sea, while senior naval officials from the Indian Ocean region will gather to discuss maritime security challenges.
Captain S. Venkatesh Kumar, the Commanding Officer, stated on Sunday that the IFR is not just a ceremonial event - it is a crucial platform for collectively addressing the challenges to maritime security. With global trade, energy supply, and food security heavily dependent on sea routes, new threats such as cyberattacks, hybrid warfare, and climate-related disruptions are on the rise. No single nation can secure the seas alone, he emphasized, highlighting the need for collective action.
This year, over 100 countries are expected to participate, bringing warships, submarines, aircraft, and delegations. New technologies, including drones, autonomous platforms, and AI-based maritime surveillance systems, will also be showcased. Discussions will cover topics such as naval coordination, information sharing, legal compliance, training for smaller navies and coast guards, and logistic support. Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief will also be a key part of the IFR.
This will be the second time Visakhapatnam hosts the IFR, following a successful event in 2016. Officials noted that IFR 2026 will further demonstrate India’s commitment to cooperative maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
The International Fleet Review is a prestigious event where navies from around the world come together to display their capabilities. Participating nations showcase their warships, naval aircraft, and operational skills through coordinated formations and demonstrations at sea.
Beyond being a military showcase, the IFR serves as a platform for countries to highlight maritime security cooperation, technological expertise, and training standards. It also offers an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic and friendly ties while demonstrating naval capabilities to the global audience.
