Inspiring Young Minds: IIT Hyderabad Visit for Sanitation Workers’ Children

In a special initiative aimed at providing equal educational opportunities , the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ) successfully conducted an awareness visit to IIT Hyderabad for the children of sanitation workers . The program was designed to instill awareness about higher education at an early age, nurture aspirations , and build self-confidence among students.

The visit took place at the prestigious IIT Hyderabad campus in Kandi village and involved students from grades 6 to 10 . A total of 180 students participated, with three students selected from each GHMC circle . The students were safely transported to the campus from 12 pickup points , including the GHMC headquarters, via buses arranged by GHMC .

The program ran from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. , with GHMC overseeing all logistics, including transportation, meals, safety , and supervision, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for all participants.

During the visit, students engaged in interactive sessions with IIT Hyderabad professors, students , and senior mentors . They received detailed guidance on various career opportunities , the importance of engineering and science , competitive exams, preparation strategies, overcoming exam-related anxiety , and developing discipline and focus toward studies.

Students also toured the campus’ innovation centers, laboratories, academic blocks, and library, gaining firsthand insight into research-based learning and campus life. The visit sparked curiosity, self-confidence, and a questioning mindset among the students, who actively interacted with faculty and mentors, showing remarkable interest in engineering, science, and innovation.

Through this initiative, GHMC not only honored the service of sanitation workers but also reaffirmed its commitment to providing equal motivation, guidance , and educational opportunities for their children. The awareness visit stood as a symbol of equality, respect , and inclusion , inspiring students and guiding them toward a brighter future .
