As part of National Road Safety Week, the Transport Department and Traffic Police in Adilabad adopted an innovative and people-friendly approach that won widespread appreciation from the public.

Instead of focusing only on fines and challans, officials chose to encourage and reward responsible driving behaviour . The programme was held at the busy Collector Chowk and drew positive responses from motorists across the town.

Traffic personnel identified two-wheeler riders wearing helmets and car drivers using seat belts, and honoured them for following safety rules. Adding a special touch to the event, school students presented flowers to disciplined motorists, making the moment memorable and meaningful. Many drivers said receiving flowers from children made them feel proud and more responsible.

Speaking on the occasion, Traffic Circle Inspector Praveen Kumar said that traffic rules are meant to save lives, not just impose penalties . He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility and warned that even small acts of negligence can lead to serious accidents.

He also pointed out that regular use of helmets and seat belts can significantly reduce the severity of injuries during accidents. The main objective of the programme, he said, was to make people follow rules out of awareness and responsibility, not fear.

The initiative sent a strong message that positive reinforcement works better than punishment . Many citizens appreciated the humane approach, saying such programmes help build a lasting culture of road safety. The Adilabad event stood out as a meaningful highlight of National Road Safety Week, proving that respect for safety can become a habit when it is encouraged the right way.
