Grandmaster Iniyan Panneerselvam delivered a standout performance by clinching double gold at the Commonwealth Chess Championship, winning both the Rapid and Blitz titles held in Sri Lanka.
The Tamil Nadu-based player scored an impressive 6.5 points from seven rounds in both formats to emerge champion in each section, underlining his dominance in fast-paced chess formats.
In the Rapid category , Grandmaster Srihari secured the silver medal, while Grandmaster Mitrabha Guha took bronze.
In the Blitz event , Grandmaster Rohith Krishna finished with the silver medal, while Srihari added another podium finish with bronze.
In the Classical section , Mitrabha claimed the title, while Sri Lankan player Ranindu Liyanage secured silver and Srihari finished with bronze, completing a consistent medal run across formats.
The tournament, conducted from May 16 to 26, featured participants from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, Maldives, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland and Canada.
Spread across Blitz, Rapid and Classical formats , the championship saw 96 players competing in the Open section, with Indian players dominating the medal standings across categories.
