Influencers Targeted in Lucky Draw Scams, VC Sajjanar Issues Strict Warning
A shocking case has emerged where some social media influencers with large followings are deceiving ordinary people under the guise of "lucky draws." Hyderabad CP VC Sajjanar has warned that strict action will be taken against these lucky draw influencers, who hype up their schemes through reels on social media but end up cheating innocent people.
Officials have noticed that some social media influencers recently have been attracting people by claiming to give expensive prizes such as cars, bikes, plots, and DJ sets, only to commit fraud under the pretense of lucky draws.
He pointed out that with stricter regulations on betting app promotions, similar scams are now appearing in the form of lucky draws. Allegedly, they ask people to buy low-cost tickets or make online transactions, then ultimately pocket the money without giving any prizes. These schemes particularly exploit the hopes of youth and middle-class families.
VC Sajjanar emphasized that such scams are illegal. He stated that no one, whether an influencer, celebrity, or social media star, is above the law. He announced that cases will be registered under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978 , and, if necessary, strict measures such as arrests and asset seizure will be taken.
