‘Infantino Out’: Global Soccer Fans Launch Petition Demanding FIFA Chief Resign

A growing revolt among soccer supporters has put FIFA President Gianni Infantino under renewed pressure, with fan organisations from around the world launching a petition demanding his resignation and calling for sweeping reforms at football’s governing body.

The campaign, launched on Thursday under the hashtag #InfantinoOut, accuses the FIFA chief of undermining supporters’ trust after his controversial attempt to create a commercial spinoff that could have allowed private investors to gain exposure to future World Cup revenues. Infantino eventually abandoned the plan following strong opposition.

The petition describes the proposal as a betrayal of football and argues that FIFA needs to be rebuilt to prevent similar decisions in the future. It has been backed by major supporter organisations including Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa and the Independent Supporters Council in North America, along with around 40 national fan groups.

The campaign comes as Infantino faces criticism from several influential football bodies. UEFA has said it has no confidence in him, while leadership figures within CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation have also voiced concerns.

Despite the backlash, Infantino continues to have support among some of FIFA’s 211 member associations. Morocco, a co-host of the 2030 World Cup, Qatar and Lebanon are among those backing him. Saudi Arabia, which will host the 2034 tournament, has not publicly endorsed him.

The petition also points to a series of decisions that have angered supporters, including Infantino’s previous backing for a biennial World Cup, his association with the controversial European Super League debate and FIFA’s ticketing policy for the 2026 World Cup.

Record ticket prices for the expanded 104-match tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico have particularly frustrated fans, with supporter groups saying they were not adequately consulted.

For the campaigners, the issue goes beyond one controversial proposal. They argue that concentrated power, opaque decision-making and a lack of accountability have severely damaged confidence in FIFA.

For the credibility of FIFA, and for the future of the game, he must resign,” the petition said. FIFA has been approached for a response to the campaign.
