Infant death, Mother’s suicide: Bengaluru police examine all angles
In a deeply tragic incident, a 29-year-old tech professional allegedly died by suicide after her 11-month-old son was found dead at their residence in Bengaluru, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place on April 1 under the jurisdiction of the Chandra Layout Police Station . Authorities said a handwritten note was recovered from the scene, in which the woman stated that her son had accidentally fallen into water and died, and expressed her inability to save him while seeking forgiveness.
According to the complaint filed by her husband, Mahantesh Wali , he had left for work in the morning while his wife, Pratibha Wali , and their son, Agasthya , remained at home. Upon returning in the evening, he found the house locked from inside and received no response to repeated calls. Using a spare key, he entered the house and discovered his wife allegedly hanging from a cradle hook.
Police officials also reported injury marks on her wrist , blood stains, and an empty strip of tablets , indicating multiple attempts prior to the alleged suicide. The infant was found lying on the bed and was declared dead.
Preliminary findings suggest the child may have accidentally fallen into a water-filled bucket in the bathroom while the mother was reportedly on the terrace. Investigators believe the woman may have taken the extreme step in distress following the child’s death.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident have raised serious questions , including the sequence of events and the exact timeline. The husband has expressed suspicion over the deaths and has sought a thorough investigation.
Police officials emphasised that while initial findings point to an accidental death followed by suicide, all angles are being examined , and no conclusions will be drawn until the investigation is complete.
