India is preparing to host a major international gathering of agriculture leaders as the BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting is scheduled to take place in Indore from June 9 to 13, 2026 . The summit, being held under India’s BRICS presidency led by Narendra Modi, is expected to position the country at the forefront of global agricultural cooperation.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed preparations along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav , emphasizing that the event will be more than a diplomatic engagement. It is being projected as a platform to showcase India’s agricultural innovation, policy leadership, and commitment to sustainable farming.

The summit will bring together member nations including Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, and newly inducted members such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Collectively, BRICS nations account for a substantial share of global agriculture, making the forum a powerful platform to shape international policies on food systems.

Deliberations during the summit will focus on critical challenges such as global food security, climate-resilient agriculture, farmer welfare, and agricultural trade. With rising concerns over climate change impacting crop productivity, the meeting is expected to explore collaborative solutions, including climate-smart farming techniques and the use of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and precision agriculture.

The significance of the summit lies in its timing and scale. As global food systems face disruptions due to climate variability, supply chain constraints, and geopolitical tensions, the BRICS platform offers an opportunity to build consensus among major agricultural economies. India, through this summit, aims to strengthen multilateral cooperation, promote knowledge sharing, and advocate for the interests of small and marginal farmers.

Beyond policy discussions, the event is also expected to boost Madhya Pradesh’s profile as a center for agricultural excellence. By hosting international delegates, Indore will showcase its infrastructure, cultural heritage, and the agricultural diversity of the region.

As preparations intensify, the upcoming BRICS Agriculture Summit is being viewed as a landmark moment that could influence the future direction of global agriculture, while reinforcing India’s role as a key driver of sustainable and inclusive farming practices.
