Indore Marathon turns tragic as young runner dies mid-race
A 25-year-old man collapsed and died while participating in the Indore Marathon on Sunday, with police suspecting a heart attack as the cause of death.
The deceased has been identified as Aryan Todi , a resident of Faridabad in Haryana, who was taking part in the 21-kilometre race during the 12th edition of the marathon.
According to police, Todi suddenly fell unconscious about 150 metres before the finishing line . A cardiologist present at the venue immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but his condition failed to improve.
He was rushed to the nearby Government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Tushar Singh said Todi appeared to be in good health prior to the race. “Prima facie, it appears that he suffered a heart attack while running. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination,” he said.
Hundreds of athletes from different parts of the country participated in the marathon, which was organised under the theme “Run from the heart, for the heart.”
Police have initiated inquest proceedings and the body has been sent for autopsy to determine the precise medical cause of death.
