The death toll in the train crash outside Indonesia’s capital has risen to 14, while authorities confirmed that rescue operations have now fully ended after completing a detailed search of the wreckage near Jakarta.

Bobby Rasyidin, CEO of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia , said 14 people have been confirmed dead as of Tuesday morning. He added that the victims’ bodies have been transported to hospital for further identification , as officials work to establish their identities.

The accident occurred on Monday at Bekasi Timur Station , when a long-distance passenger train collided with the rear of a stationary commuter train . Reports indicate the situation developed after an earlier disruption involving a taxi stalled on the tracks , which triggered a chain of rail movement complications before the final impact.

According to officials, the collision severely damaged one carriage, particularly a women-only coach that bore the brunt of the impact . Authorities have confirmed that all victims were women, while rescue teams also reported dozens of injuries across the site.

The injury toll stands at 84 , with survivors being treated across multiple hospitals in the region. Emergency teams used cutting equipment during evacuation efforts before confirming that no passengers remain trapped in the wreckage.

Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee has launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash, working alongside PT KAI and emergency agencies. Officials are examining signalling systems, train sequencing, and the earlier track incident as part of the probe.

Indonesian authorities have also indicated that broader rail safety improvements and infrastructure upgrades may be considered following the accident, as scrutiny grows over congestion and safety conditions on the busy commuter corridor.
