Indiramma saree distribution begins today for one crore women

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state government has decided to distribute one crore Indiramma sarees to one crore women across the state. The Chief Minister conducted a review meeting on Tuesday with Minister Seethakka and senior officials to finalize arrangements for the distribution program. He instructed officials to ensure that every eligible woman receives a high-quality saree.

The distribution drive will begin today on the occasion of Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

The sarees are being produced entirely by handloom workers in Sircilla. However, with production taking more time than expected, the Chief Minister directed that the distribution be carried out in two phases:

• Phase 1: Rural Areas

Distribution will run from Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary (November 19) until December 9, celebrated as Telangana Thalli Day.

• Phase 2: Urban Areas

Distribution will take place from March 1 to March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day.

The Chief Minister emphasised that there should be no compromise on quality. He also directed officials to use technology to ensure a fully transparent distribution process and to monitor progress at every stage.

At 12 PM today, the Chief Minister will pay tribute at the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road and then formally launch the Indiramma Saree distribution. Later, he will interact with women from rural areas via video conference from the Secretariat. Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and district collectors have been instructed to join the conference from their respective district headquarters.

Minister Seethakka, CM’s Secretary Manick Raj, Handlooms Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer, SERP CEO Divya, and other senior officials took part in the review meeting.

The government aims to provide high-quality sarees to nearly one crore women under this initiative. Officials estimate the total cost of the scheme at around ₹480 crore. The approved unit rate for each saree is slightly below ₹800, and with each woman set to receive two sarees, the government intends to deliver benefits worth approximately ₹1,600 per beneficiary.
