Indiramma Canteens expanded in Hyderabad, meals at just ₹5

Aiming for a “Hunger-Free Hyderabad,” the Congress-led Praja Palana government is rapidly expanding Indiramma Canteens across the city. These canteens provide quality breakfast and lunch for just ₹5 each, mainly benefiting daily-wage workers, auto drivers, small traders and low-income families.

On Friday, two more Indiramma Canteens were inaugurated in key areas of the Musheerabad constituency - one near Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Bagh Lingampally and another at National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Kavadiguda. The facilities were formally opened by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar along with GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. Local MPs, MLAs and officials also joined them and interacted with beneficiaries over breakfast.

Speaking at the event, Minister Prabhakar said the canteens are a major support system for people who migrate to the city seeking work and for economically weak sections. He added that the government is identifying more locations where such canteens are needed, and new centres will be opened soon based on requests from local communities and public representatives.

Mayor Vijayalakshmi noted that the canteens are being established in line with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision to ensure no one in Hyderabad goes hungry. The GHMC plans to expand the network of canteens across the entire city. The operations of these canteens are being managed by the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation.

Several GHMC officials, corporators and other public representatives attended the inaugural programmes.
