IndiGo Raises Fuel Charges On Domestic And International Flights As ATF Prices Climb

IndiGo has raised fuel charges on its domestic and international flights as rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices put pressure on airline operating costs. The revised charges will apply to all new bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026, making air travel more expensive for passengers.

For domestic flights, IndiGo has increased the fuel charge to between Rs 375 and Rs 1,300 per sector, depending on the distance travelled. Flights covering up to 500 km will attract a Rs 375 charge, while those between 501 km and 1,000 km will carry a Rs 600 charge.

The charge will rise to Rs 900 for flights covering 1,001-1,500 km, Rs 1,150 for 1,501-2,000 km and Rs 1,300 for routes longer than 2,000 km. The new structure represents an increase from the airline's earlier April charges, which ranged from Rs 275 to Rs 950 per sector.

IndiGo has also revised fuel charges on international routes. Flights to SAARC countries will attract Rs 1,000 for distances up to 500 km and Rs 3,000 for longer routes. The charge for Southeast Asia, the GCC and Middle East, and North and East Asia will be Rs 5,500.

Flights to Africa will carry a Rs 6,000 fuel charge, while the charge for Europe will remain at Rs 10,000.

The airline said the latest month-on-month increase in fuel prices has exceeded 14%, taking ATF costs to among the highest levels in the last decade. Domestic ATF prices rose by about 13.2% from October 1, increasing by around Rs 16 per litre to roughly Rs 137 per litre from Rs 121. This was the third consecutive monthly increase in ATF prices.

IndiGo said ATF prices have remained volatile in recent months, particularly amid geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Since aviation fuel accounts for a significant share of airline operating expenses, the increase affects carriers' cost structures and network economics.

The airline said fully offsetting the higher fuel costs would have required a significantly larger increase in fuel charges. It described the latest revision as a measured and relatively modest adjustment aimed at limiting the additional burden on passengers and said it would continue to monitor fuel prices and make further adjustments when necessary. IndiGo is India's largest airline by domestic market share and operates an extensive network of domestic and international flights.
