IndiGo Cancels Saudi Flights Till October 24, Akasa Extends Suspension on Select Routes
IndiGo has extended the cancellation of flights to and from four Saudi Arabian cities until October 24 amid the evolving security situation in the region. Akasa Air has also extended the suspension of its services to Riyadh and Jeddah.
In a post on X on Thursday, IndiGo said flights connecting Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would remain cancelled until October 24, 2026, inclusive. The airline said it was closely assessing the developing situation and that affected passengers were being notified through the contact details provided at the time of booking.
Akasa Air separately announced that flights to and from Riyadh would remain suspended until October 24, while services connecting Jeddah would remain suspended until October 21. The airline said it was monitoring developments and assessing the situation in real time in view of the prevailing security conditions in the Middle East.
Passengers affected by the cancellations can opt for a full refund, which will be credited to the original payment source within seven days, or reschedule their travel without paying additional charges, Akasa Air said.
On Tuesday, IndiGo, Air India Express, Air India and Akasa Air had announced the cancellation of flights connecting Saudi Arabian cities until October 17. The latest announcements extend the disruption for passengers travelling on some of these routes.
Last week, airlines had temporarily suspended services to Riyadh following reports of attacks at the city's airport, allegedly carried out by Houthi militants. The situation comes amid escalating hostilities involving the Iran-backed Houthi group and Saudi Arabia, with armed drones and missiles reportedly being used in attacks.
The airlines have not announced a uniform resumption date for all affected routes. Their decisions remain dependent on assessments of the evolving security situation.
Passengers scheduled to travel to or from Saudi Arabia have been advised to check directly with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates, cancellation information and available rebooking or refund options before proceeding to the airport.
