The Technology Development Board (TDB) under India’s Department of Science & Technology (DST) has partnered with Scharge Pvt Limited to develop advanced electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure under the India–UK Collaborative R&D Programme for Industrial Sustainability , in collaboration with UK-based Albright Product Design Limited .

The project, titled “Powering EV Charging Innovation,” aims to deliver next-generation EV charging solutions specifically designed for commercial fleet and depot operations . It combines Scharge’s innovative EV charger controller with a patented automated cable management system from the UK partner, targeting operational efficiency, safety, and usability in high-demand charging environments.

A key feature of the system is a motorised overhead cable management mechanism , compatible with AC Type-2 chargers , which reduces manual handling, minimizes cable wear and tear , and enhances user convenience. By addressing challenges like cable management, equipment protection, and workflow optimization, the technology is expected to significantly improve turnaround times, safety standards, and the overall efficiency of EV depots.

Founded in 2021, Scharge Pvt Limited is an emerging Indian EV technology company focused on power electronics and smart charging systems . Its portfolio includes AC and DC chargers, smart EV sockets, and backend management software for fleet operators, residential complexes, and charge-point operators. The company aims to strengthen indigenous capabilities and enable scalable, sustainable infrastructure for India’s growing electric mobility sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB , emphasised that collaborative R&D initiatives like the India–UK programme are critical to accelerating industry-relevant innovation. He noted that such partnerships are vital to building a robust, efficient, and future-ready EV ecosystem in India.

The promoter of Scharge Pvt Limited highlighted that the support will enable the company to bring globally competitive EV charging solutions to market, addressing the evolving needs of fleet operators and infrastructure providers. The project reflects India’s ongoing push to strengthen electric mobility infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of sustainable transportation nationwide.
