India’s strength shines through global turmoil: EAM Jaishankar

India has shown remarkable resilience in the face of recent global shocks , External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Saturday, highlighting the country’s ability to navigate both domestic and international challenges successfully.

Addressing the convocation ceremony at IIM Raipur , Jaishankar referred to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia , which erupted in February after the United States and Israel attacked Iran, disrupting global fuel supplies and triggering a shortage of hydrocarbons . He noted that even distant crises now have profound impacts, reflecting the deep interconnectedness of a globalised world .

“No one can dispute that multiple global shocks have recently tested our resilience , and that India has come through them solidly,” Jaishankar stated. He stressed that the most effective way to de-risk and gain leverage is through building robust national capabilities , emphasizing the importance of preparedness in a volatile world.

The minister observed that the global order is undergoing structural shifts , with power, influence, and technology being leveraged in increasingly competitive ways. “New developments in technology, energy, military capability, connectivity, and resources have encouraged risk-taking in an increasingly competitive environment. Everything today is being leveraged, if not weaponised ,” he said.

Jaishankar also highlighted the necessity of hedging and diversification in both business and foreign policy strategies to navigate global uncertainties. He identified the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts, and climate change as the three defining challenges of the decade.

He concluded on a positive note, attributing India’s ability to weather these crises to inclusive growth, representative politics, and decisive leadership, which together have created a resilient foundation for the country’s future.
