India's Nikita Sehrawat Wins U17 World Wrestling Silver, Kamna and Garima Add Bronze

India's young wrestlers continued to impress on the global stage as Nikita Sehrawat clinched a silver medal, while Kamna Babal and Garima secured bronze medals at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku on Thursday, capping a memorable day for the country.

Competing in the 57kg category, Nikita produced an outstanding campaign to reach the final, displaying remarkable consistency and composure throughout the tournament. Her impressive run set up a title clash against reigning U17 World silver medallist Epenesa Elison of the United States.

Facing one of the strongest wrestlers in the competition, Nikita fought hard but could not break through her opponent's defence, eventually going down 0-6 to finish with a well-earned silver medal. Despite the loss, her performance underlined her immense potential and reinforced India's growing strength in age-group wrestling.

In the 49kg division, Kamna Babal showed tremendous character after suffering a semifinal defeat against Japan's Saika Uchida. Refusing to let the setback define her campaign, she bounced back strongly in the bronze-medal bout against Russia's Irina Tsydeeva.

Kamna held her nerve in a closely contested contest, edging past her opponent 3-2 to secure a place on the podium and add another medal to India's tally.

India's third medal came through Garima in the 73kg category. After narrowly missing out on a place in the final following a 5-7 semifinal defeat to American wrestler Kaili Manuel, Garima responded in emphatic fashion in the bronze-medal match.

The talented grappler dominated Spain's Paula Benaixa Perez, winning by technical superiority to seal the bronze and complete a successful outing for the Indian women's team.

The three-medal haul highlights the steady rise of India's junior wrestling programme and reflects the depth of talent emerging through the country's grassroots system. With wrestlers consistently challenging for medals at the world level, the performances in Baku offer another encouraging sign for the future of Indian wrestling.
