India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand is already proving to be a major attraction, with more than 50,000 tickets sold within just over two weeks of going on sale.

The Indian team is set to return to New Zealand after a gap of six years for a packed tour featuring five T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches. The series, which begins in late October, has generated strong interest among fans across the country.

New Zealand Cricket said public ticket sales opened on Monday following a two-week pre-sale period for Cricket Nation members, Sky customers and ANZ customers. Several matches are already on course for full houses.

The second T20I at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval has emerged as one of the biggest draws, with around 75 per cent of tickets already sold.

Demand has been particularly strong at Auckland’s iconic Eden Park. New Zealand Cricket has opened the stadium’s sixth tier of seating for the first time since India’s 2019 tour, adding more capacity for the fourth T20I scheduled for October 30.

NZC Head of Marketing Tim Ellis said the growing demand reflected the excitement surrounding India’s arrival.

He said opening the top level at Eden Park again was an encouraging sign of the enthusiasm building around the tour. Ellis also noted that matches at Hagley Oval have traditionally attracted strong crowds, but the pace of ticket sales this time has been particularly impressive.

New Zealand Cricket is also preparing a series of fan events and match-day activities to enhance the experience for supporters.

With India regarded as one of the biggest commercial draws in international cricket, the tour is shaping up to be a major sporting and entertainment event in New Zealand.
