India’s 1st PM Mitra Park, ₹20,000 cr, 3 lakh jobs

Madhya Pradesh is on the verge of a transformative leap in its textile sector with the announcement of India’s first PM Mitra Park, a large-scale integrated textile manufacturing and export hub, in Dhar district. Set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, the park is already attracting serious attention, having received investment proposals of over ₹20,000 crore from 114 major textile companies.

The scale of the project is staggering. Out of the total 2,158 acres designated for PM Mitra Park, around 1,300 acres have already been allotted, and the rest is being prepared for phased allocation. According to MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, these investments are expected to directly generate more than 72,000 jobs, while the entire project could ultimately create up to three lakh employment opportunities. Beyond numbers, this signals a potential transformation in the lives of thousands of families across the region.

The park is designed around a 5F vision,Farm-to-Fibre-to-Factory-to-Fashion-to-Foreign. This means it will cover the entire textile value chain, from raw cotton farming to yarn and fabric production, garment manufacturing, fashion design, and exports. By integrating every stage under one roof, PM Mitra Park aims to make Madhya Pradesh’s textile industry globally competitive, reducing dependency on imports and increasing domestic value addition.

While the investment figures and employment projections are ambitious, the project’s real success will depend on implementation efficiency. Land acquisition, infrastructure development, and timely clearances are crucial. Madhya Pradesh has moved quickly, approving 91 company applications and recommending land allotments, but challenges such as water supply, energy infrastructure, and skill development for local workers will need careful planning.

The park is also linked to social initiatives. At the same event, PM Modi will launch the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, which focuses on women’s health, family welfare, and empowerment. This synergy of industrial growth with social development could create a holistic model for sustainable regional progress.

Critically, while the project promises jobs and economic growth, past industrial parks in India show that expectations often clash with reality. The key will be balancing rapid investment inflows with proper governance, worker training, and environmental safeguards. If executed well, PM Mitra Park could become a flagship model for textile industrialization, inspiring other states to replicate its integrated, large-scale approach.
