
Indian Wrestlers Dominate U-23 Asian Stage with Three Gold Medal Haul
India produced a commanding performance at the U 23 Asian Wrestling Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam , as Mansi Lather, Kajal, and Sumit clinched gold medals to power a dominant medal run on the second day of competition.
The trio delivered clinical and confident displays on the mat, underlining India’s growing strength in the age group circuit. Mansi Lather set the tone in the 68 kg category with a one sided 14 to 1 victory over Uzbekistan’s Firuza Esenbaeva, never allowing her opponent space to settle into rhythm.
Kajal followed with an equally ruthless performance in the 76 kg final , blanking Kyrgyzstan’s Aizharkyn Zhanybekova 10 to 0 , in a match that highlighted her control and defensive discipline . In Greco Roman action, Sumit added the third gold for India, securing the 63 kg title with a strong 12 to 2 win against Uzbekistan’s Ozodbek Khalilboev.
Beyond the gold medal winners, India’s depth was also on full display as the team added two silver medals and three bronze medals , reflecting a broad and consistent performance across categories.
Sweety fought hard in her final but had to settle for silver after a close 5 to 7 loss against Vietnam’s Ngoc L. Neha also showed resilience in the 59 kg final before going down 5 to 9 to Uzbekistan’s Laylokhon Sobirova, earning the second silver of the day.
In the bronze medal contests, Ahilya S. Shinde impressed with a dominant 13 to 2 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Arruke Kadyrbek Kyzy. In Greco Roman, Neeraj Patel delivered a commanding 8 to 0 victory against Kazakhstan’s Rauan Bekimov in the 55 kg category , while Rohit Bura sealed another bronze with a clinical 9 to 0 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Artykbek Alymbek Uulu in the 87 kg division .
Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Singh praised the squad, calling the performance a reflection of discipline, depth, and determination . He congratulated all medal winners and expressed hope that the momentum would continue in the remaining bouts.
