Indian Weightlifters Win Four Golds At Commonwealth Youth And Junior C’Ships

Indian weightlifters delivered a strong performance at the ongoing Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships and the Universal Cup (Senior) in Apia, Samoa, securing four gold medals on the second day of competition.

In the 65kg men’s category , Sunil Singh clinched the gold with a total lift of 271kg , comprising 126kg in snatch and 145kg in clean and jerk . In the women’s 58kg category , Aisangfa Gogoi emerged victorious with a total of 185kg , including 79kg in snatch and 106kg in clean and jerk , securing another gold for India.

Continuing the winning momentum, Abhinob Gogoi bagged gold in the men’s 71kg division with a combined lift of 284kg , which included 129kg in snatch and 155kg in clean and jerk .

At the Universal Cup , Charu Pesi of Arunachal Pradesh added to India’s tally by winning gold in the men’s 65kg category , lifting a total of 289kg , including 127kg in snatch and 162kg in clean and jerk .

The Indian contingent’s impressive show across categories highlighted the depth of emerging talent in the country’s weightlifting circuit.

Reacting to the performances, Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) president Sahdev Yadav congratulated the athletes, coaches and support staff. He said the results reflect the hard work, discipline and commitment of the team and underlined that India is steadily emerging as a strong contender on the global weightlifting stage .

The performances are expected to further boost India’s medal prospects in upcoming international competitions, strengthening the country’s position in youth and junior weightlifting events.
