
Indian U-17 Girls Pack a Punch with Dominant Opening Day in Asian Championships
Women boxers couldn’t have asked for a more commanding beginning to their campaign at the Asian Boxing U17 Championships 2026 in Tashkent. With five convincing victories on the opening day , the young contingent announced their arrival with authority, combining skill, aggression, and composure inside the ring.
Leading the charge was Rakhi (48kg) , who wasted no time in setting the tone. Displaying sharp technique and relentless pressure, she forced a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) decision in the very first round against her Sri Lankan opponent. It was a performance that underlined both confidence and intent.
The momentum only grew stronger. Ovi (50kg) followed with a flawless display, securing a unanimous 5-0 verdict over her Iranian rival. Her control and ring awareness stood out, leaving little room for doubt. Similarly, Mamta (52kg) delivered a clinical performance, outclassing her Thai opponent with another dominant 5-0 decision , showcasing precision punching and tactical discipline.
In the 54kg category, Lakshmi extended India’s winning streak with yet another clean 5-0 victory , dominating her Korean opponent from start to finish. Her bout reflected complete command, both offensively and defensively.
The day ended on a high note with Navya (57kg) producing a powerful performance, sealing her win with an RSC in the opening round against Vietnam, capping off a perfect day for the Indian girls’ team.
In the boys’ section, Neela Narendra Kumar (46kg) impressed with a strong first-round RSC victory over Saudi Arabia’s Khalid Alhossah. However, Daksh Pawar (48kg) faced a tough challenge and went down 0-5 against Tajikistan’s Firuzjon Boymatov.
Overall, it was a day that belonged to India’s young women boxers — a performance filled with promise, dominance, and a clear signal that they are here not just to compete, but to conquer.
