Indian travellers prioritise wellness, sustainability and personalised experiences: report
Travel is no longer just about leisure for Indian tourists, but increasingly a means to achieve mental wellbeing and personal growth, according to a new report by Amadeus. The study, titled Travel Dreams 2026: From Data to Delight , highlights a significant shift in how Indians perceive and plan their journeys, with a strong focus on sustainability, personalization and stress-free experiences.
The findings show that a growing number of Indian travelers now view travel as a way to reset mentally. Around 35 per cent of respondents said they aim to return from a trip with a calmer state of mind, while 38 per cent prefer destinations that encourage them to disconnect from digital devices. This indicates a clear trend toward travel being used as a tool for relaxation and emotional wellbeing rather than just recreation.
The report also points to a rising willingness among travelers to spend more on experiences that enhance comfort and satisfaction. A majority of respondents expressed readiness to pay extra for improved in-room air quality, curated food and beverage options, and superior dining experiences. Personalization has emerged as another key expectation, with nearly 89 per cent of Indian travelers seeking tailored services that align with their preferences.
Ease of planning remains a crucial factor, as 94 per cent of respondents said they prefer hotels with a strong online presence and seamless booking systems. Technology, particularly artificial intelligence, is playing an increasingly important role in shaping travel decisions, with 87 per cent of Indian travelers relying on AI-generated search summaries while planning their trips. However, despite the growing use of automation, the report underscores that travelers continue to value human interaction and expect personalized service from hotel staff.
Sustainability has emerged as a defining factor in hotel selection, with 93 per cent of Indian travelers stating that eco-friendly practices influence their choices—the highest among all markets surveyed. Many respondents also indicated a willingness to pay a premium for environmentally responsible accommodations, reflecting a shift in consumer priorities.
The report is based on a global survey of 6,000 travelers and 500 hoteliers, offering insights into evolving travel behavior and industry responses. It suggests that for the hospitality sector, aligning services with mental wellness, sustainability and personalization will be critical in meeting the expectations of modern Indian travelers.
