Indian Super League back from February 14 with full participation, says Mandaviya
After months of uncertainty, the Indian Super League (ISL) is set to kick off on February 14 , with all 14 clubs, including Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, confirmed to participate. The announcement was made by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday, ending speculation over the league’s future, which was on pause due to the absence of a commercial partner.
“The government, the football federation, and all 14 clubs met today and decided that the ISL will start on February 14. All clubs will participate,” Mandaviya said. The 2026 Indian Super League will be the 12th season overall.
The I-League , which also faced a suspension, will run around the same time , featuring all 11 clubs, though in a truncated format. The ISL is scheduled to host 91 matches on a home-and-away basis, while the I-League will have 55 matches , with logistical details still being finalized.
Joining Mandaviya at the announcement, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey explained the financial arrangements. A central pool of Rs 25 crore has been set aside solely for the conduct of the ISL. While 10% of the fund comes from AIFF, 30% was expected from a commercial partner. With no partner in place currently, the AIFF will contribute Rs 14 crore for the ISL and Rs 3.2 crore for the I-League.
Chaubey also stated that a Governing Council Board will be formed to manage both leagues and will be empowered to take all commercial decisions once a partner is found.
The announcement comes as a major relief for Indian football fans, clubs, and players, who have awaited clarity after the suspension of the country’s top football competitions. Both leagues are now set to resume, marking a fresh start for domestic football ahead of the new season.
