Indian Super League 2025-26 media rights up for bid, AIFF invites offers

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has issued the Request for Proposal (RFP) for broadcast rights of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season, which starts on February 14 . The season will feature all 14 clubs in a shortened format, with 91 matches and each club playing 13 games.

The RFP , open for bids until February 1, covers both TV and OTT streaming for the 2025-26 season only. While AIFF has not disclosed a base price, industry sources expect a conservative valuation with a mix of fixed fees and revenue sharing. Bidders must have a minimum net worth of Rs 10 crore, average annual revenue of Rs 10 crore over the last three years, and at least three years of live sports broadcasting experience. A security deposit of Rs 5 lakh is required. Foreign entities can bid but must set up an Indian subsidiary or join a consortium and obtain necessary regulatory approvals.

The winning bidder will manage production or procurement of live broadcast feeds, including camera coverage, commentary, graphics and distribution. Likely bidders include major broadcasters such as Viacom18, Sony Sports Network, Star Sports and JioCinema.

The season was truncated after AIFF’s former commercial partner, FSDL , ended the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) on December 8 following disagreements over renewal terms and revenue sharing. A tender for a new partner received no takers, forcing AIFF to step in. The delay pushed the league start to mid-February, leading to a shortened schedule. Clubs have been asked to share 60 per cent of the cost, around Rs 1 crore each, as the season’s total expense is pegged at Rs 25 crore, adding pressure on financially stressed teams.

Fixtures are expected soon, with the league likely to follow a home-and-away format and possible centralised venues to reduce travel. With the RFP now out, attention will shift to who secures the rights for a season expected to be closely watched.
