Indian Student Injured In Russia Drone Attack In Ufa, Embassy Says
An Indian student was injured in a drone attack in Russia’s Ufa on Wednesday and is being treated at a hospital, the Indian Embassy in Moscow said.
The student, who studies at Bashkir State Medical University, suffered minor injuries. The embassy has not released the student’s name or details about the injuries.
“The Embassy is in contact with the student and local authorities and extending all necessary assistance,” the mission said on X.
The attack came during a major rise in Russia Ukraine drone strikes. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defences brought down 453 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions. The attacks reached areas far from the front line.
In Ufa, a drone hit an oil refinery unit that was under maintenance, causing a fire and minor damage, Bashkortostan head Radiy Khabirov said. Another drone struck a residential building in northern Ufa, breaking windows and damaging cars. One person was taken to hospital.
Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, is more than 1,000 km from Ukraine’s border. The region is an important centre for Russia’s oil industry and has faced several drone attacks in recent weeks.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of Indian medical students in Ufa. In March, nearly 250 Indian students from the same university sought shelter after a building near their hostel was damaged in a drone attack.
The university also saw a separate knife attack in February, when four Indian students were among those injured at a student residence.
Thousands of Indian students study in Russia, with many pursuing medical courses. The embassy said it remains in touch with the injured student and local authorities and is providing all necessary help. No further details about the student's condition have been released so far.
