'Indian Sport at Its Finest': Shreyas Iyer's Powerful Tribute After India's Historic CWG Campaign

India's T20 captain Shreyas Iyer has lauded the country's athletes for delivering an outstanding campaign at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with special praise reserved for the boxing contingent after its record-breaking performance.

Taking to social media platform X, Iyer congratulated the athletes for producing one of India's most memorable Commonwealth Games campaigns and hailed the determination shown across disciplines. He described the team's efforts as a proud moment for the nation and applauded both the champions and para athletes for inspiring millions.

"What a Commonwealth Games for Team India! Our boxers dominated Glasgow, bringing home a haul of gold and making the nation proud. Huge congratulations to all our champions and para trailblazers for inspiring the nation. This is Indian sport at its finest. Proud of every athlete who wore the tricolour," Iyer wrote.

India's boxing team scripted history by topping the medals table with its best-ever Commonwealth Games performance, winning seven gold and three silver medals. The women's team led the charge with five gold medals, underlining India's growing dominance in the sport.

Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) emerged as champions, while Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal secured the two men's gold medals. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain added to the tally with a silver medal in the 75kg category.

The achievement eclipsed India's previous best boxing campaign at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where the country had won seven medals, including three gold.

India concluded its Glasgow campaign with an impressive 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze —finishing among the leading nations in the competition.

Iyer's message comes at a time when he has recently taken charge as India's T20 captain. After a difficult start that saw series defeats against Ireland and England, the team bounced back by winning the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, providing the skipper with his first series victory.
