
Indian Navy’s INS Tarkash Docks at Port Louis, Boosting India-Mauritius Ties
Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash , a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, has arrived at Port Louis in Mauritius as part of its ongoing operational deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region , reinforcing maritime cooperation and bilateral ties between the two countries.
The warship docked at Port Louis on June 20 and is scheduled to undertake a series of engagements aimed at enhancing collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard . During the visit, the ship's Commanding Officer, Captain Rohit Mishra , will hold meetings with senior government officials and coast guard functionaries in Mauritius.
As part of India's capacity-building initiatives in the Indian Ocean region, INS Tarkash will conduct professional training sessions for personnel of the Mauritius National Coast Guard. The programmes will focus on harbour and sea watchkeeping, firefighting, damage control, maritime safety and seamanship, helping strengthen operational capabilities and maritime preparedness.
The vessel will also be opened to visitors during its stay, allowing members of the local community to interact with Indian naval personnel. The initiative is expected to foster people-to-people ties , promote maritime awareness and strengthen goodwill between India and Mauritius.
INS Tarkash additionally represented India during celebrations marking the International Day of Yoga 2026 in Port Louis on June 21, underscoring the broader cultural and diplomatic dimensions of the visit.
The deployment reflects India's continued commitment to supporting friendly maritime forces in the region and advancing its vision of enhanced security and cooperation in the Indian Ocean. Officials said the port call is aimed at deepening India-Mauritius maritime engagement and further strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between the two nations.
