Indian Navy-US Navy EOD Exercise 2026 Begins at Southern Naval Command

The eighth edition of the Indian Navy-US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 commenced on Monday at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, marking another step towards strengthening operational cooperation and interoperability between the two navies.

The five-day bilateral exercise began with a welcome address, followed by familiarisation visits to the Command Clearance Diving Team (Kochi) and the Diving School. EOD specialists from both navies also exchanged operational experiences and familiarised themselves with the Indian Navy’s EOD equipment and capabilities.

The exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability and professional cooperation between the specialist diving and EOD teams of the Indian and US navies. It will feature a range of activities, including Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs), cross-training, equipment demonstrations and scenario-based practical exercises.

According to the Defence Spokesperson, the exercise will provide personnel from both sides an opportunity to share operational knowledge and understand each other's capabilities, operational concepts and employment philosophies.

The programme will also facilitate the exchange of contemporary EOD methodologies, emerging technologies and best practices, helping the participating teams strengthen their ability to work together during complex operations.

The Indian Navy and US Navy have been conducting joint Salvage and EOD exercises since 2005. Over the years, the programme has provided a platform for both forces to deepen professional engagement and develop greater synergy in specialised underwater and explosive ordnance operations.
