Indian Naval Academy to host 14th Admiral’s cup sailing championship from Dec 8–13

The Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, will host the 14th edition of the Admiral’s Cup 2025 , one of the world’s most respected naval sailing championships, from December 8 to 13 . The event, considered India’s premier international naval regatta, will see a record 35 countries participating this year, the highest since the competition began.

The Admiral’s Cup was instituted in 2010 with the aim of building camaraderie, strengthening maritime cooperation, and promoting mutual understanding among officer trainees of friendly foreign navies. What began modestly with fewer international teams has now grown into a major global platform that draws top sailing talent from naval academies around the world.

The championship is conducted in the Match Racing format , a head-to-head style of sailing where two boats compete directly against each other. Participants will race using the ILCA-6 class sailboats , an internationally recognised sailing class known for testing tactical skill, physical endurance, and precise seamanship qualities that are essential for future naval officers.

Naval sailing championships like the Admiral’s Cup are held in several countries and form an important part of naval training worldwide. They not only sharpen practical maritime skills but also encourage international cooperation and sportsmanship among young officers.

With the largest-ever global participation this year, the Admiral’s Cup 2025 is expected to further cement India’s position as a key hub for international naval sporting events.
