Indian National Held at Sri Lanka Airport With Over 1 Kg Kush Narcotics

A 35-year-old Indian national was arrested in Sri Lanka on Tuesday after authorities allegedly discovered over one kilogram of ‘Kush’ narcotics in his possession at the country’s main international gateway, police said.

The suspect was detained at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayaka during a joint operation conducted by Sri Lanka Customs and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) . Officials said the arrest followed a routine inspection at the airport , during which officers detected the illegal drugs.

According to police, the narcotics consignment was recovered during security screening , prompting immediate action by enforcement teams stationed at the airport. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody at the arrival terminal , where officers seized the drugs for further examination.

Officials have not publicly disclosed the identity of the arrested individual , but confirmed that he is an Indian citizen. The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Sri Lankan authorities to strengthen airport surveillance and prevent the smuggling of illegal substances through the country’s primary international entry point .
