Indian companies have invested nearly CAD 11 billion across Canada , strengthening their presence across almost all provinces and contributing significantly to employment, innovation, and local economies, according to a 2026 report by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Canada-India Business Council.

The report, titled “From India to Canada: Economic Impact and Engagement” , highlights that nearly 50 Indian companies are currently active in Canada, collectively generating over 33,000 jobs . This marks a sharp increase in employment, which has nearly doubled since the first edition of the study in 2023.

A key addition in the latest edition is the scale of operational spread, with Indian firms present across almost all Canadian provinces and territories, reflecting deeper regional integration beyond major hubs such as Ontario and Quebec.

The report notes that Indian companies have invested around CAD 1.1 billion in research and development and more than CAD 24 million in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, underlining their focus on innovation and community engagement.

A major highlight missing from earlier summaries is the strong forward outlook: 100% of surveyed companies plan to increase investments in Canada over the next five years , while nearly all intend to expand hiring, R&D activities, and CSR commitments. Around 97% of firms also plan workforce expansion , signalling sustained long-term confidence.

The report was released during a 2026 Canada business delegation led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who was accompanied by over 100 business leaders from sectors including technology, energy, manufacturing, mining, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure.

It also underscores Canada’s emergence as a growing destination for critical minerals, mining, and clean energy investments , with India and Canada increasingly cooperating in these strategic sectors.

On the trade front, both countries are actively working toward concluding a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of 2026. Officials have also reiterated their ambition to expand bilateral trade to around USD 50 billion by 2030 , up from roughly USD 23 billion in 2024.

A strategic energy partnership between the two countries has further expanded cooperation in renewable energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG), uranium supply chains, and emerging technologies such as AI and advanced manufacturing .
