Indian Fencing Team Adds Five Medals at Commonwealth Championships

The Indian fencing contingent produced another strong performance at the Commonwealth Championship in Lagos, Nigeria, winning three gold, one silver and one bronze medal on the third day of competition.

The latest haul took India's overall medal tally to an impressive 29 medals, comprising 8 gold, 7 silver and 14 bronze.

India began the day with a dominant showing in the senior women's foil, where the country secured the top two positions. Kanaglakshmi won the gold medal after a composed campaign, while compatriot Joys Ashitha claimed silver. England's Georgia Green and Emily Goodchild shared the bronze medals.

The Indian success continued in the senior men's epee, with Rajendran Shanthimol Sherjin securing the country's second gold of the day. Sherjin defeated South Africa's Kruger Pieter, who settled for silver. Wales' Burkhardt Marc and South Africa's Losevsky Sergey took the bronze medals.

India's third gold came in the senior men's sabre, where Singh Karan Singh emerged victorious after a strong final against Australia's Shim Yoongi, who won silver.

India also secured another bronze in the event through Kumaresan Padma Gisho Nidhi, who shared the podium with Nigeria's Akinyosoye Oluwafolayemi.

With the championship concluding on Wednesday, the Indian team will now turn its attention to the remaining competitions across the foil, epee and sabre disciplines, looking to further strengthen its impressive medal tally.
