Indian Fencers Ready for Tough Test at Senior World Championships in Hong Kong

A 24-member Indian fencing contingent will compete at the Senior World Fencing Championships, which begin on July 22, 2026, in Hong Kong. The prestigious nine-day tournament will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo venue and is expected to feature the world's top fencers across various categories.

India has fielded a balanced squad comprising 12 men and 12 women athletes, who will participate in all three fencing disciplines Épée, Foil and Sabre in both individual and team events. The championship provides a major opportunity for Indian fencers to measure themselves against the sport's elite competitors and gain valuable experience on the global stage.

Expressing confidence in the team, Rajeev Mehta, Secretary-General of the Fencing Association of India (FAI), said the event marks an important milestone for Indian fencing.

“This World Championship represents a major milestone for Indian fencing as we test our strength against the very best in the world,” Mehta said in a federation release.

He added that Indian athletes across all three disciplines have undergone intensive preparation and displayed remarkable determination throughout the domestic and international season.

According to Mehta, the federation has immense faith in the contingent's ability to compete fearlessly, challenge stronger opponents and bring pride to the nation in Hong Kong.

The Indian team will be supported by five national coaches and two physiotherapists, ensuring technical guidance and medical support throughout the competition.

The squad includes notable names such as Taniksha Khatri, Prachi Lohan, Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer, Joseph Bennet, Tejas Manoj Patil, Shreya Gupta, Karan Singh, Lakshay Badser and Vishal Thapar, among others, spread across the Épée, Foil and Sabre categories.

With participation in every discipline and format, the Indian contingent will aim to make a strong impression and continue the country's progress in international fencing at the world championships.
