Indian blind women’s cricket team meets President Murmu after historic T20 World Cup win

The Indian Blind Women's cricket team, champions of the inaugural Blind Women's T20 World Cup, were welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday.

In a heartwarming exchange, the team presented the President with an autographed cricket bat, while she reciprocated by signing a cricket ball for them. President Murmu congratulated the players on their remarkable achievement, saying their success would inspire many others to aim high in sports and life. “Your dedication and triumph will motivate others to scale new heights in their lives and careers,” she said.

The team’s journey in the tournament was nothing short of extraordinary. India defeated Sri Lanka in their opening match, then overcame Australia with a 57-run win despite initially failing to chase a target of 293. A dominant performance against arch-rivals Pakistan saw them chase 136 runs in just 10.2 overs. In the semi-final, India secured a nine-wicket victory over Australia and capped their unbeaten streak with a seven-wicket win against Nepal in the final to lift the trophy.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met the players at his residence in New Delhi. Praising their historic triumph, he offered sweets to every team member and coaching staff. Addressing the team, PM Modi remarked, “Those who work hard, their hard work never goes in vain, not only in sports, but also in life. You have made your mark. Your courage is inspiring.”
