Indian Army releases ‘Bhairav’ film narrated by Amitabh Bachchan to showcase elite battalions
The Indian Army has released a short film titled Bhairav , narrated by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan , showcasing the newly raised Bhairav Battalions and their role in strengthening national security through modern, high-speed combat operations.
The film was unveiled on the occasion of Maha Shivratri , a symbolic choice as Bhairav is revered as a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva , associated with protection and the destruction of evil. Announcing the release, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), expressed gratitude to Bachchan for lending his voice to the project. “With profound gratitude to Shri Amitabh Bachchan for lending his iconic voice for the film,” the Army said in a post on X.
Responding to the tribute, Bachchan described his association with the film as an honour. “For the brave warriors of the army – #Bhairav… an honour and a privilege to be associated,” he wrote.
The Bhairav Battalion represents a new category of combat units positioned between the Para Special Forces and regular infantry formations. It has been raised to meet the demands of modern warfare by providing a rapid and precise offensive response to emerging threats against the nation.
According to Army officials, the unit has been developed as part of the force’s recent restructuring exercise , drawing lessons from global conflicts as well as India’s own operational experiences, including Operation Sindoor . The battalions are designed to carry out Special Forces–type tasks at tactical and operational depth, enabling swift and decisive action in hostile environments.
A key feature of the Bhairav Battalions is their emphasis on technology-driven warfare . All operatives are trained in the use of drones and are capable of deploying them in real operations for targeting enemy bases and formations across the border. This capability is aimed at enhancing surveillance, precision strikes and battlefield dominance .
The Army has already raised around 15 Bhairav Battalions and deployed them with different formations along both borders. Plans are underway to expand the force to nearly 25 battalions in the near future. These units are expected to bridge the operational gap between conventional infantry and Para Special Forces , providing commanders with a flexible and dedicated force for high-speed offensive missions .
Through the film Bhairav , the Army seeks to highlight not only the courage and readiness of these new battalions but also its commitment to adapting to evolving security challenges with innovation, technology and specialised training.
