Indian Army opens fire at suspected terrorists along LoC in Rajouri

Troops of the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt by suspected terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district early Tuesday after detecting suspicious movement near the forward areas, officials said.

According to officials, a group of suspected militants was spotted trying to cross into the Indian side from across the border near the Turkandi forward area at around 4.15 am . Alert troops guarding the LoC immediately opened fire to thwart the infiltration attempt, forcing the suspects to retreat.

The infiltration bid was detected following credible intelligence inputs and persistent surveillance in the Bhimber Gali sector , officials said. Troops responded swiftly and engaged the suspected infiltrators, successfully preventing any breach of the LoC.

In a statement posted on social media, the army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said the movement of terrorists was detected during the early hours of March 4 and that troops reacted with “decisive force and superior tactical execution”, foiling the infiltration attempt through coordinated ground action.

Reinforcements were rushed to the sector after the incident and a massive search operation was launched to sanitise the area and ensure that no infiltrators managed to slip through the border. Officials said it was not immediately clear whether any of the terrorists were injured or killed in the firing.

The army said troops have been reoriented to maintain relentless domination of the area , supported by integrated ground and aerial surveillance, while a robust operational posture and heightened alert remain in force across the sector.

The latest attempt comes amid continued infiltration attempts in the region. On February 19–20 , security forces had foiled another infiltration bid in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri, during which arms and ammunition were recovered , officials said.

Security agencies said the LoC in the Rajouri–Poonch belt remains under tight surveillance , particularly as melting snow in higher reaches often opens traditional infiltration routes during the changing season.
