
India women’s hockey team hold Argentina to 2-2 draw after strong fightback
The India women's national field hockey team signed off their four match tour of Argentina with a strong sense of recovery and belief , holding the Argentina women's national field hockey team to a 2–2 draw in the final outing and returning home with momentum built through grit and persistence.
After falling behind early in the series, the Indian side showed steady improvement with each game, eventually turning the tour around with two wins and a hard fought finish that underlined their fighting spirit. Stand-in captain Navneet Kaur said the comeback reflects a team moving in the right direction and learning to handle pressure against top opposition.
The tour began on a difficult note for India. In the opening match on April 13, Navneet Kaur and Annu found the net, but Argentina dominated key moments to win 4-2 . The second match on April 14 brought another narrow setback as India lost 2-1 despite an early goal from Ishika.
Refusing to fade, India responded strongly in the third game on April 16. Navneet Kaur and Neha converted penalty corners to give India control, and despite a late push from Argentina, the visitors held on for a 2-1 win that kept the series alive.
The final match on April 17 was a tense battle where both sides created chances but could not break through in regulation time. India’s defence stood firm to secure a goalless draw . In the shootout, India held their nerve and emerged 3-2 winners , ensuring the series ended evenly balanced.
Speaking after the final match, Navneet Kaur said, “I am proud of how the team responded after the early games. It is never easy to come back against a strong side like Argentina, but we showed character and belief .”
The tour ends with India carrying not just results, but also confidence built through recovery, resilience, and a clear sense of progress and direction .
