India welcomes COP30 outcomes, Calls for fair and inclusive global climate action

India has welcomed the key outcomes of the UNFCCC COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil, reaffirming its commitment to equity, climate justice, and global solidarity. In its official statement, India expressed strong support for Brazil’s inclusive leadership at COP30 and emphasized that collective action is essential, particularly to address the needs of developing nations.

India highlighted the commitment at COP30 to mobilize $1.3 trillion annually by 2035 for climate action, including a tripling of adaptation funding for vulnerable countries. It noted that adaptation is critical for nations most exposed to climate impacts despite contributing the least to global emissions. India also welcomed the establishment of the Just Transition Mechanism, calling it a significant milestone that will help ensure a fair shift to low-carbon economies, protect workers, and support sustainable livelihoods without imposing disproportionate burdens on developing countries.

The country further noted initiatives such as the Global Implementation Accelerator and the “Belém Mission to 1.5 °C” to help nations meet their Paris Agreement goals, as well as the launch of the Tropical Forests Forever Facility to support forest conservation.

India reiterated the importance of equity and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, urging developed nations to honor their historical obligations and provide climate finance, technology, and capacity-building support. It also warned against climate policies that act as trade barriers, stressing that such measures could undermine equity and disadvantage developing nations.

While welcoming the outcomes, India noted that some areas, such as a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels, were not agreed upon. The country concluded by reaffirming that global climate action must be just, inclusive, and grounded in shared responsibility, calling on all parties to turn commitments into concrete implementation to ensure support reaches those who need it most.
