In response to rising cross-border smuggling of drugs, weapons, and explosives via drones, Hyderabad-based drone defense company Indrajal Drone Defence has unveiled the country’s first fully mobile anti-drone patrol vehicle, the Indrajal Ranger.

The state-of-the-art vehicle is capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralizing hostile drones, even while on the move. According to the company, it offers a rapid-response solution to the growing threat posed by airborne smugglers.

“India is now facing a new kind of adversary - one that flies. Smugglers no longer risk crossing borders on foot; in minutes, they are sending drones across our territory. The Indrajal Ranger is India’s answer to this new battlefield,” said Kiran Raju, founder and CEO of Indrajal.

Built on an all-terrain 4×4 platform, the vehicle operates using Indrajal’s proprietary SkyOS autonomous defense engine. It can detect drones up to 10 kilometers away and can disable or bring them down within 4 kilometers. The system uses AI-based tracking, cyber takeover capabilities, soft-kill methods, and multiple counter-UAS options including interceptor drones.

Designed to operate across border roads, canals, farmland, critical infrastructure, and densely populated urban areas, the Indrajal Ranger provides real-time surveillance and automated threat assessment. It can immediately neutralize hostile drones or jam their systems if direct action isn’t possible.

The vehicle has been developed specifically for use by border security forces and police units. According to the company, it provides fast, autonomous, and decisive responses to new security challenges posed by drones, which have increasingly become a key tool for smugglers. The Indrajal Ranger is reportedly ready for deployment.

Why it was developed

• Cross-border weapon smuggling incidents: Recent events along the Punjab-Jammu border saw drones bringing weapons from Pakistan into Indian territory.

• Drone threats intercepted: This year alone, BSF personnel have taken down 255 drones from Pakistan.

• Drone-based drug smuggling: Drones have become a major means of transporting drugs worth ₹10,000 crore.

The Indrajal Ranger aims to counter these threats, offering security forces a new level of aerial defense capability.
